Carbonated drink consumption and increased exhaled nitric oxide in atopic children.

چکیده
Fractional exhaled nitric oxide concentrations (FeNO) are elevated in asthmatic children and have been used inter alia to guide inhaled corticosteroid treatment in children [1]. Caffeine consumption might influence FeNO independently of asthma and more than one plausible mechanism has been identified. Studies in adults have reported changes in FeNO within 1 h of caffeine ingestion but the results are inconsistent, with one study having reported reduced FeNO [2], one elevated FeNO [3] and another no change after ingestion [4].

Liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry analysis of exhaled leukotriene B4 in asthmatic children
BACKGROUND The role of leukotriene (LT) B4, a potent inflammatory mediator, in atopic asthmatic and atopic nonasthmatic children is largely unknown. The lack of a gold standard technique for measuring LTB4 in exhaled breath condensate (EBC) has hampered its quantitative assessment in this biological fluid. We sought to measure LTB4 in EBC in atopic asthmatic children and atopic nonasthmatic chi...
متن کاملThe relationships among Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus exposure, exhaled nitric oxide, and exhaled breath condensate pH levels in atopic asthmatic children
This study examined seasonal changes in indoor Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus 1 (Der p 1)/Blattella germanica 1 (Bla g 1) antigen concentrations in the homes of atopic asthmatic and atopic nonasthmatic children. Possible associations between environmental allergen exposure and levels of exhaled breath indices were also evaluated.A total of 38 atopic children were recruited for this cross-sectio...
متن کاملThe role of exhaled nitric oxide assessment in children with bronchial asthma
BACKGROUND Exhaled nitric oxide (eNO) assessment in children with bronchial asthma (BA) is an easy and non-invasive test that provides informations on the presence of bronchial inflammation. METHODS The study included 110 children aged between 5-18 years with a diagnosis of BA. The patients were assessed clinically (objective examination, questionnaire regarding the disease control) and by me...
متن کاملExhaled nitric oxide and asthma: complex interactions between atopy, airway responsiveness, and symptoms in a community population of children.
BACKGROUND Exhaled nitric oxide (FE(NO)) is raised in asthmatic children, but there are inconsistencies in the relationship between FE(NO) and characteristics of asthma, including atopy, increased airway responsiveness (AR), and airway inflammation. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between FE(NO) and asthma, atopy, and increased AR in children. METHODS One hundred and...
